Coven – Worship New Gods (Album Re-released July 31, 2012)

Worship New Gods by Coven is the oldest new release in years. Confused? Yeah you are. ‘Worship New Gods’ was originally released in 1987 on vinyl only, come 2012 ‘Worship New Gods’ has now recently been transferred to CD format and set for release on July 31st.

Coven are a unique eighties metal band who fuse rock and roll with a doom ridden tone that lingers through out all nine tracks. If you can imagine possibly Led Zeppelin being given a reach around by Down then you might be close to the style of Coven.
I’m sorry to say that in 1987 this may have sounded intense and fresh with the wonders of studio engineering but unfortunately twenty five years later in 2012 better productions are made in music student’s bed rooms. The song writing is fun and catchy but the half arsed production lets Coven down.

Coven may be a niche band but were there that many fans of there’s who wanted this album re released onto a CD format? I usually enjoy a blast from the past but on this occasion it has not revved my engine. 6/10
