Cryptopsy is the seventh full length and first self titled release from Canadian death metal titans Cryptopsy. Having started in 1988 under the name Necrosis before changing their name to Cryptopsy these Canadians have been reinventing death metal for almost two and a half decades.
Over these years Cryptopsy have had a revolving door basis with members leaving the band and new members joining but this has never affected or limited their sound. This seventh masterpiece is no exception. Most withguitars readers know I am not a death metal enthusiast but I have a soft spot for Cryptopsy after seeing them on redemption TV many years ago.
From the first second in the first track to the last moment in the final track there is no let up on this album. Blast beats, enticing guitars, thunderous bass and vocals that will scare the living shit out of you are all over this monstrous album.
If you are already a fan of the band this album must be purchased when it is independently released through the band on September 14th or if you don’t have any laxatives that work this album is sure to sort you out. 8/10
