I hope most understand that I really rate Damn Vandals this is the follow to the impressive last single ‘Bayonet’. I feel you still need to know more about this London band. Here goes. The band is made up of Jack Kansas from Reading on vocals and guitar, Frank Pick from Oxford on guitar, Adam Kilemore-Gardens from N Ireland on bass and Chris Christianson III on drums from Sheffield, via Switzerland. Dizzy? Just think ‘motorway services’.
You should see the video; it will inform you a lot better than I can here. However the new songs leave me with a strong alternative feel think maybe The Birthday Present locked in a milk bar with say Rocket from The Crypt listening to Jesus And The Marychain, use your imagination, it might happen one day err, I give up. But great vocal and guitar, like the mix – nice to her a drummer! There’s an early 1980’s feel and by that generalization – the good side of indie back then, Cocteau Twins, Echo And The Bunnymen, The Smiths, then there’s that early 1990’s Pixies al a Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds, I even heard a kitchen sink!
My roundabout premise is that you like bands I have mentioned then it is my earnest hope that you hear ‘Can’t Go Dancing When Your Gone’, hats off too to the B side ‘Hey Little Bunny’ as well, has a noteworthy vocal and a guitar part to die for. Ok, our cloth cap may not be required by the apparel police, someone stole half of the dominos and the whippet buggered off some years ago, but hears that? That was my applause for Damn Vandals, rest assured, we can still tell good music up here in the North. 8/10
