The Mystery Lights have enthralled audiences once again with a new video featuring forthcoming album title track “Too Much Tension”, shared today via BrooklynVegan. The visuals for “Too Much Tension” are lively and inventive, blending striking city imagery with the band shredding in a classic, lo-fi fashion. Sharp guitar riffs and blistering rhythm perfectly capture the band’s relentless spirit, delighting seasoned listeners while inviting new ones along for the ride. Fans across the nation will have new chances to experience The Mystery Lights electrifying live show as they kick off a national headline tour on May 18 in support of their highly anticipated new record Too Much Tension! out tomorrow on Daptone’s rock-centric imprint, Wick Records.
The band recently gave a taste of their take-no-prisoners brand of rock & roll swagger on their Paste Magazine live session. The Mystery Lights previously shared singles “Someone Else is in Control” + “I’m So Tired (of Living In The City)” and “Traces,” the latter of which was premiered with Gonzai.

Known for its raw, visceral energy, The Mystery Lights’ relentless live show earned a great deal of critical acclaim for their 2016 self-titled debut, also out on Wick. While keeping the hard-hitting approach of the first LP, Too Much Tension! finds the 60s tinged garage punks digging deeper into their well of eclectic influences, enriching their sound without echoing the past. Touching on substance abuse, self-care, and the recognition of happiness only once it’s lost, the album is a deeply layered, emotive collection cloaked in a blistering sonic ride.
Produced by Wayne Gordon at Daptone’s House of Soul, Too Much Tension!, is a modern classic born from vintage technique and soulful execution. The band will support the record with a nationwide tour kicking off with a NYC hometown throwdown on May 18. Be sure to catch them LIVE in a city near you!
