An extra special event to celebrate the 200th Daylight Music, featuring some of the most popular acts from the last six years. First there is Louis Barabbas – expect caustic love songs that will leave you pumped up and breathless. New Zealand’s French for Rabbits music contains winsome guitar lines and eerie instrumentation. Plus Ex-Easter Island Head, creating a sensation whenever they play. If you’ve never seen musicians hitting electric guitars with mallets then cancel all other plans for the day and head down to the Union Chapel.

In between the bands, there will be atmospheric instrumental music provided by songwriter Adrian Crowley.

To celebrate the fantastic photography taken throughout the lifespan of Daylight Music by a very talented bunch of volunteer photographers, there will be a lo-fi photo exhibition consisting of 200 postcards on the pews of the chapel for people to take away, plus there will be a limited numbers of a brochures to buy featuring all of the photographs.
The event will raise money for Daylight Music and Arctic Circle events and activities in 2016.

To date, Daylight Music has provided 643 performances by 530 different acts over these 200 Daylight Music events. As well as serving 15,254 cups of tea or coffee, 9, 863 slices of cake and 5,003 pieces of quiche.

French for Rabbits

Daylight Music - Special 200th Edition - 26 September: feat. Ex-Easter Island Head, French for Rabbits and Louis Barabbas

French for Rabbits hail from the remote natural setting of Waikuku Beach, in New Zealand’s South Island. Vocalist Brooke Singer expresses intimate narratives against the cast of the damp colonial cold; her voice delicately steeled against winsome guitar lines, and the eerie instrumentation of their bandmates. It’s a weather-beaten dreamscape, nostalgic for warmth and hopefully lilting towards sunnier climes.
Their debut LP ‘Spirits’ was released on the 27th of October 2014 on Lefse Records, and on the 31 October on diligent kiwi label Home Alone Music. The release coincided with an extensive tour in October – November 2014, where the opened for Danish chanteuse Agnes Obel in some of the most beautiful concert halls through Europe.

Louis Barabbas

Daylight Music - Special 200th Edition - 26 September: feat. Ex-Easter Island Head, French for Rabbits and Louis Barabbas

Louis Barabbas is a writer, performer and label director, best known for caustic love songs and energetic stage shows. Over the years he has performed all over the world, from Mexico and the USA to mainland Europe and Australia, sharing stages with such disparate acts as Motorhead, Supergrass, Sun Ra’s Arkestra and The Blockheads. He is also a committee member at the Musicians’ Union, on the advisory board for Un-Convention, presenter on Fab Radio International, moderator for Tom Robinson’s Fresh On The Net, occasional spoons player, one-time beard model, co-founder of Debt Records and Captain of Dirt-Swing band The Bedlam Six.
BBC 6 Music once described Louis’ music as “excellent in every way” (but there’s probably still room for improvement).
