Ian Carmichael is a sound engineer and musician, best known as songwriter and keyboard player of acclaimed Scottish electronic trio One Dove. James Hackett is best known as frontman and guitarist of beloved Glasgow indie-pop group The Orchids. Ian has produced 6 albums for The Orchids and has also played keys for the band.
Ian Carmichael describes the significance of the project below:

“It feels like this is the album that James and I were always supposed to make. It took us decades to realise it, and eventually it took a pandemic, but we finally did it.

Things Must Change is as much an observation as it is a demand. We didn’t start out with a manifesto when we began writing these songs but we’ve grown together as artists working together for years, and so we have a natural affinity and understanding, a long-held distrust of the music business, and a longing for change. This became a subconscious foundation of our writing, and a lot of these songs are about change; the things we want to change (the world, the weather, the whole music business) to the things we don’t (relationships, happiness, the people we love). But no matter what, things must change.

We wrote and recorded the songs between Glasgow and Barcelona over a period of 2 years and then sat on our hands hoping for something to change. And LNFG showed up.”
