Most recently, Deerhoof celebrates the subversive darker side of ‘La Isla Bonita’ with Geoff Hoskinson’s new video for “Tiny Bubbles”. Hoskinson’s depiction of the content-creation machine as a human wasteland is both epic and bleak. It parallels the odd musical admixtures of military drumming, spaghetti western melodies, and mannered dance rhythms, as well as the Jonathan Crary-inspired lyrics about capitalist and imperial propaganda. Ultimately the video’s revolutionary conclusion mirrors the song’s breakdown into anarchy and freedom.
