Boston based trio Dispatch – one of North America’s greatest independent guitar bands – release their new LP ‘Circles Around The Sun’ on August 20th.
“We’ve been called the biggest band nobody’s ever heard of,” says Brad Corrigan, one of Dispatch’s three singers and multi-instrumentalists. "People either know everything about us or they know nothing. There never seems to be any middle ground."
How Corrigan, Chad Stokes, and Pete Francis met in college, formed a band, and — with no radio airplay, major label support, or significant press coverage — became one of the biggest draws on the live music scene, and arguably the biggest independent rock band in history, is a remarkable story.
Though Dispatch hadn’t released a full-length album since 2000, and even officially called it quits in 2004, their music continued to capture the hearts and minds of new generations of rock fans through pure word-of-mouth.
A 2004 farewell show at the Hatch Shell in Boston drew 110,000 people, including fans from Europe, South America, and Australia. Not one, but three 2007 shows at New York City’s Madison Square Garden sold out immediately.
Their first LP in twelve years – and the band’s first ever European release – ‘Circles Around The Sun’ is the kind of all-American rock and roll statement of intent that Dispatch are famed for, and one which delivers the gutsy storytelling and radiant harmonies which will now endear them to a brand new audience.
Using a palette of funk and reggae coloured hues,Pete Francis (vocals, bass, guitar, percussion), Brad Corrigan (vocals, drums, guitar, percussion) and Chad Urmston (vocals, guitar, bass, percussion) ramp up that classic guitar sound for their UK debut, with highlights including lead track ‘Not Messin’ and the LP’s mesmerising title track.
Produced by Peter Katis (Interpol, Jonsi, The National), and recorded at The Clubhouse (Rhinebeck, NY), Water Music (Hoboken, NJ) and Tarquin Studios (Bridgeport, CT)‘Circles Around The Sun’ is released on the trio’s own Bomber Records.
When the boys from Boston played their first ever shows outside North America on UK soil in March, they were welcomed by an army of fans and sold out Shepherd’s Bush Empire! Now they’re back on UK soil for the second time this year…
