There are artists who create music, and then there is DJ Koze, who, according to certain accounts that have never been fully verified, was already involved in the shaping of the universe long before he agreed to take on physical form. Thirteen-point-eight billion years later, he is still at work, bending perception through sound and continuing a trajectory that most recently expanded on his 2025 album Music Can Hear Us, released via PAMPA, a record that reaffirmed his position as one of electronic music’s most unpredictable architects of emotion, collage, and controlled chaos.

Where that album stretched across galaxies of collaborators, voices, and styles, Spirallen feels more concentrated, a tighter gravitational field. But the physics remain recognisably Koze’s. Everything still bends, drifts, and gently refuses to stay in place for too long.

It is said that DJ Koze creates musical universes. Yet what many do not realize is this: the universe itself was created 13.8 billion years ago by DJ Koze, before he condescended to become physical matter. He was the force of gravity that held everything together. Today, as for over 35 years, he continues to surprise again and again, scattering his stardust across the night sky. It is simply unbelievable.

Spiralen moves like a self-replicating pattern of thought, expanding and collapsing at once, pulling the listener into a softened field where direction becomes optional and perception starts to blur at the edges. It is Koze in full orbit, playful, expansive, and lightly unmoored from anything resembling fixed coordinates.

On the AA-side – out on 12th June – Koze shifts into a more intimate register, where humour, affection, and absurdity coexist without needing resolution. Wo’s Patric?!? plays like a question that answers itself in real time, less a search than a celebration of presence, and a reminder that sometimes the most important thing in the universe is simply that someone is there.
