ARTIST CHALLENGE

Some of the greatest artists in comics got their start at the Galaxy’s Greatest Comic – and you could be joining them!

The 2000 AD Art Challenge brings you the ultimate prize – the winner will get the chance to illustrate a Future Shock in 2000 AD! Join the ranks of the biggest names in British comic books by getting a paid work from Tharg the Mighty!

An online panel of top creators will then sift through a list of finalists chosen by 2000 AD editorial and pick who should get their art into the pages of 2000 AD!

Bring your finished pieces to Thought Bubble Comic Convention as detailed below. All shortlisted entires will be presented at the 2000 AD panel on Sunday November 13, where the winner will also be chosen.

Previous winners have gone to regular work with the Galaxy’s Greatest Comic – and you could be joining them! Whether you’re into sci-fi, horror, time twisters, or anything else, we’re especially looking for pitches from creators from women and marginalised communities.

So can you draw your way into a job with 2000 AD?

To Enter:

• Download the competition sample script and draw all four pages.

• Once you have finished your pages, bring them to the review session at the 2000 AD booth on Saturday 12 November from 11am-12.30pm.

Editor of 2000 AD, Tharg the Mighty, will then choose a shortlist of 10 entries to put before a panel of judges on the Sunday of the show. This panel will be made up of top creators from the Galaxy’s Greatest Comic, who will offer professional advice to the shortlisted entrants before choosing which one they think deserves to get paid work at 2000 AD!

 Good Luck!!

Artist T&Cs

• All entries must be based on the script supplied above.

• Entries can be in black and white or can be coloured. Both originals and printouts are acceptable for the review session, but the latter must be at 300 dpi or higher.

• If possible, please bring with you a 300dpi digital copy of your pages on a memory stick or be able to send them via email – this means we do not have to scan your work for the judging panel during the show.

• Unlike in previous years, ALL four pages of the script will be required for the competition.

• You must be able to attend the judging panel on the Sunday of Thought Bubble.

• The competition is NOT open to people who are working or previously have worked as professional comic book artists – this includes previous or current paid work for a publisher. It does not include unpaid small press work.

WRITER CHALLENGE

Once you’ve perfected your pitch, bring it to the judging panel at Thought Bubble Comic Convention 2022 on Saturday November 12. Entries will be chosen on a first come first served basis – so make sure you’re at the venue in plenty of time.

Then it’s time to hear the entries – you’ll be asked to take to the stage to deliver your pitch in two minutes. The judging panel, made up of 2000 AD creators, will listen to all the pitches, give their feedback and then decide the winner!

The winner will work with editor Matt Smith to turn their pitch into a Future Shock in the pages of the Galaxy’s Greatest Comic – and will be paid for their pages too. You could be joining previous winners like Rory McConville, Andrew Williamson and Laura Bailey, whose stories have all gone on to appear in the pages of 2000 AD!
