Announce Clinic’s EP compilation as next album in their archival series
Equal parts acid-punk heroes and pop legends, Clinic announced their signing to Domino in 1999 with their hypnotic self-titled compilation of their first 3 EPs, a furious medley of tunes inspired by 60s pop, psych, dub and classic US-flavoured punk.
Frontman Ade Blackburn says of the Clinic compilation: “With the early EP’s, we wanted to set our stall out as being into pop music and rhythm playing a large part in the songs. Above all, for the music to be fun and entertaining.”
That philosophy runs through every track on the compilation, from the in your face, guitar-heavy “Cement Mixer” to the lilting grooves of closer “Voot”. Organ lines churn throughout and drums lock in behind Blackburn’s detached vocal delivery, reinforcing Clinic’s ability to make experimental ideas feel direct and accessible.
Clinic have subsequently gone on to establish themselves as one of the key pillars of the Domino catalogue with a frighteningly diverse discography that ranges from early classics like their sophomore LP Internal Wrangler to their latest charge into the fray, Fantasy Island – all planted in the fertile soil of these seminal early EPs.
Looking back, the EPs stand not only as a snapshot of a band at the start of their journey, but as a foundational text and the DNA from which their later explorations of psychedelia, minimalism, and warped pop would grow. A vital early chapter in the story of one of Domino’s most distinctive and enduring artists, Clinic’s EPs remain a thrilling statement of intent.
Available exclusively via Domino Mart on an ultra-limited run of 300 hand-numbered records, pressed on heavyweight vinyl – Clinic is set for release on February 27th. Pre-order HERE.
