Donna Thompson shares "Meteors" single and video

London singer-songwriter, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist DONNA THOMPSON is set to unleash What In The World?!? next month; a new seven-track EP, set for release 21st November on PRAH Recordings.

Today she shares the EP’s final single in the shape of “Meteors”, accompanied by a single-shot YouTube visualiser [watch HERE].

“I had a difficult time in my previous relationship as I wasn’t as experienced in playing the field,” explains Thompson. “”Meteors” is describing what it felt like when all of my boundaries were crossed and I had no choice but to try to fix myself because so much had been purposefully broken.”

It follows the previously-shared “What Is It?!”, the EP’s almost title track [watch / listen] and “Gardner Street”, which was written for a short film [watch / listen].

An homage to 90s hiphop, “What Is It?!” was created by Thompson sampling herself across various instruments. Thematically, it finds her thinking about what qualifies as love. While “Gardner Street” was intended as a response to the overwhelming distractions and brain fog that many of us experience.

Since two well-received standalone singles on PRAH in 2023 and 2024, Donna has been quietly building up her strength as a solo artist whilst still occasionally performing with friends, including Alabaster Deplume, who played sax on “Sunny April Showers” (listen HERE).

This next phase of her writing takes a deep dive into some of the relationships and situations faced whilst navigating new territories in life such as romance as a neurodiverse person, universal truths and everyday gratitude. A much more nuanced look at the world and its current condition is presented in What In The World?!?, with a desire to pull the listener in to ask questions that could assist in personal healing and peace.

About Donna Thompson

Music has never left DONNA THOMPSON, but for a while she left it. There was no loss of love for the craft itself; instead it was the collision of trying to find space and time to create running up against the realities of having to pay rent and make a living. And, as anyone who gives up something they love can attest, once you’re out it’s hard to get yourself back in.

Donna, however, is back IN. Skip forward a few years and she’s now a key figure and collaborator in the increasingly legendary Total Refreshment Centre, back in her groove as a musician and fighting hard for that creative headspace she once thought she’d lost.

On Something True (2022, PRAH Recordings), across four tracks of swirling, cinematic jazz and meditative R&B, Donna grappled with the importance of self-love, of community and the strength found within oneself and others. It isn’t an EP that simply waves the flag of victory at a journey completed – life isn’t like that after all. Instead, there’s a realisation that the battle never really ends but that the wins should be celebrated when they can, that past traumas stay with you and it’s worth fighting through them to find love both inwardly and from outside.

Something True was followed by standalone singles Sunny April Showers(2023) and Fever Bubbles (2024).
