Keeping the momentum of a career-defining year, rising alt-pop star Dora Jar has today dropped hypnotizing new single ‘Bump’, available now on Island Records. Having toured the US with her earlier this year, Dora continues her Billie Eilish dates this month with further dates around Australia and New Zealand, in the wake of recent track ‘Bumblebee’.
Based on those magical encounters that can take life in an unexpected and inspiring new direction, ‘Bump’ tugs at the heartstrings, showcasing Dora’s ability to deep dive into the senses; delicate vocals floating over distorted beats and haunting guitar melodies, cascading into bright and winding choruses that eventually evaporate into whispers. “When I bump into you, I ripple out of my illusion / All around me is the sound, I follow open hands and holograms / You take me for a molecule, I take you for a fool, I follow you into the open air.” Accompanying the song today is the official video directed by Jocelyn Antequil. Conceptualized by the hypothetical, Dora becomes her own surrealist Alice in Wonderland caught between a dream-like swim with teapots for feet and an alter ego living on the inside, looking out.

Dora Jar is a free spirit with an old soul. The 24-year-old’s formative sound spans influences of bedroom pop, grunge, folk and are held together by Dora’s sometimes-eccentric visual eye, which is equal parts existential as it is in the spirit of Jim Henson. Beneath her elastic sound and eye-catching style, Dora Jar is an artist of deep substance. Born in New York but raised in LA, she found particular inspiration after a period in London, where she started uploading little snippets of herself playing music to Instagram. Soon, she connected with producers like Solomonophonic, Felix Joseph, Ralph Castelli, Vron and John DeBold – with whom Dora crafted her hugely accomplished debut EP, ‘Digital Meadow’. Early co-signs followed from the likes of Moses Sumney, Grimes and Charli XCX for breakout tracks like ‘Polly’ and ‘Multiply’. ‘Comfortably In Pain’, Dora’s most recent EP, dropped earlier this year to high praise and unleashed Dora’s incredible live show: she has played sold out London dates this year alone at the likes of Lafayette, Moth Club, St Pancras Church and performed breakout sets at the likes of The Great Escape, ahead of a North American headline tour just announced.
Also confirmed to premiere a live version of ‘Bump’ on tomorrow’s Late Show With Stephen Colbert’s Play at Home series, watch out for more from Dora Jar to follow soon.
