The Duchess and the Fox have released a stunning film-noir video for “Every Night” the first track off their self-titled debut, on Paste. The nouveau-cabaret duo’s song is about the a love interest who appears and disappears according to their whims, leaving their lover to deal with the aftermath. The music video shows singer Andrea Diaz performing at an empty nightclub in front of one man who appears to be an old love.

”’Every Night’ is a song about that one person who whirls into your life, constantly disappearing and reappearing, leaving you to deal with the crushing despair of their absence, or the blinding ecstasy of their presence,” said Diaz to Paste. “It deals with the complicated feeling of knowing you’re in love with someone, but you shouldn’t be, feeling deeply in need of them while secretly loathing the fact you feel so dependent on them. So really, it’s a song full of conflict. There’s a bit of resolution in the end, although it’s fragile. The realization is that the person is still worth the struggle because of the way they shape your world when they are around.”

Made from the minds of downtown music legend, Joe Mcginty (Loser’s Lounge, Psychedelic Furs) and indie up and comer, Andrea Diaz (Superhuman Happiness), the Duchess and the Fox makes sensual music for lovers, dreamers, and those undone by nostalgia for what once was. Ms. Diaz notes, “Our collaboration is based on a mutual longing for the magic that seems to be disappearing around us.  In our music, we allow ourselves to indulge in our romanticism; we paint the way we would like the world to be. It’s a very natural process–the lyrics and melody I write flow easily from Joe’s lovely piano progressions and piano lines.”

Unapologetically lyrical and sweeping in beauty, The Duchess and the Fox’s nouveau cabaret music leads listeners to an older world, where magic lies in wait, somewhere out there in the darkness. The Duchess and the Fox EP is slated for a February 9th release, and a release party will be happening on February 9th in NYC at The Red Room. Doors are at 8pm.
