East End live: PERE UBU PERFORM LIVE SCORE / MORE ACTS ADDED
The EAST END FILM FESTIVAL presents….
SATURDAY 13TH JULY 2013
East End Live have announced the details of their festival headline performance: the live soundtrack to 60s horror film ‘Carnival of Souls’, to be performed by US underground rock pioneers Pere Ubu, will take place at St John on Bethnal Green, a Georgian-era church – and a Grade 1 listed building – in the heart of east London. The support artist has been named as Bob Constant & the Goodbye Horses, who will be performing a live soundtrack to a short film and whose new video ‘The Laughter Track’ can be seen for the first time below :
David Thomas of Pere Ubu described the event as “a major new work, which promises to be the proving ground for songs for the beginning of the next Pere Ubu album, which is tentatively entitled ‘Beep Fiction’. We are excited.”
Pere Ubu are the latest big act to be confirmed for the East End Live Festival and join the likes of joint headliners TOY, The Monochrome Set, Wet Nuns, Comet Gain, Blurt, Charles Hayward and Charlie Boyer & The Voyeurs.
Reflecting the East End’s burgeoning music scene, live music has played an increasingly prominent role at the East End Film Festival, so much so that this year the festival announces a brand new initiative:

EAST END LIVE will sit side by side with the East End Film Festival’s mission of discovery in cinema, and reputation for celebrating the combination of live music and film by extending the festival’s music arm for a stand-alone, one day, multi-venue festival. Featuring both new and established cutting-edge acts from various genres, and a special cinematic element, EAST END LIVE will offer a vibrant communion of sound and image.
East End Live is affiliated with Independent Label Market, where the founders of the World’s greatest Independent Record Labels join together to pitch stalls and sell their own records themselves at this very unique brand of farmers market. With the combination of the market during the daytime, and the festival in the evening, Saturday 13th July looks certain to be a very special date for indie music.
There will be a series of free pre-parties for East End Live, including a celebration of the release of Douglas Hart‘s (ex-Jesus and Mary Chain) debut solo record, taking place at The Griffin on the 5th of June and a special performance from former This Heat / Camberwell Now drummer Charles Hayward at The Old Blue Last on Monday the 24th June.
