Editors have announced their 8th studio album, Surface, Echo & Sound, out 30 October via Play It Again Sam. Latest single ‘The Rush’ is out now alongside an official video shot in Tokyo and directed by Henry Ehara, and it’s a strong signal of where the band have landed: warmer, more organic, and closer to their roots than anything in recent memory.
After the electronic detour of 2022’s EBM with Blanck Mass, the band regrouped in summer 2025 in rural Gloucestershire and went back to basics, writing face-to-face in a room together the way they did in their earliest days. Frontman Tom Smith brought acoustic-based songs to the group and let them breathe, with mandolin running through much of the record as a key textural thread. ‘The Rush’ captures the mood perfectly: an imagined bar scene between two people, leaning into the comfort of friends and loved ones, drinking and taking stock of the ups and downs.
