Electric Guest– Awake (Because Music, Released July 16th)

Since the release of their debut album ‘Mondo’, in May in their homeland; Los Angeles’ own Asa Taccone and Matthew Compton, collectively known as Electric Guest, have been on withguitars radar now for the last few weeks. After all not every album lists co-produced by Taccone and Danger Mouse, in the credits, which can only add even more kudos to the feel good impressive bow. Not easy to sum up the sound of Electric Guest apart from generalisms – it’s upbeat, well crafted, with eclectic instrumentation and soundclash styles of music, Asa himself  insists that it’s ultimately pop music, disclosing, “I have a sweet tooth for terrible music so I won’t even say what I’m influenced by.”

So what to expect from the new single ‘Awake’ was one of the ten tracks to make the sea breezed album, played so often at  withguitars towers, it’s hard not to be bias, pleased to say Danger Mouse was involved from the early days and worked on producing this single, already a live success it must have been a no brainer to pick it as a single. ‘Awake’ comfortable mix between the electronic and acoustic, indie and dance and err, pop,  add Asa’s lyrics, and  vocals, it collectively delivers a warm positive head space, isn’t that an attractive price to pay? Even if this one song  gives you only a sketch of the  duo’s debut, it is a healthy investment for just about all. 8.5/10
