by empire park
A four-piece rock band hailing from Hobart, Tasmania, empire park. have already built themselves a reputation for energetic, soaring live shows and memorable, honest music, with vocals already garnering comparisons to rock giants Kings of Leon and more. Having released their demo single “Up To You” and landed a spot at Falls Festival Marion Bay in 2014, they are currently preparing for their first professional release, with the backing of Sydney’s The A&R Department
“We’re OK” is the first single from the band’s forthcoming debut EP, expected late 2015. The single was recorded with Hobart-based producer/recording engineer Tim Kling of Sylphonic Productions. Tim’s past credits include working with Bertie Blackman, Ella Hooper and many more. The record was recorded, mixed and produced by Tim between the Palais Theatre in Franklin, and Sylphonic Productions home studio, and was mastered by Mandy Parnell (Tame Impala, Bjork, APHEX TWIN).
This song was one of the last ones we wrote for this EP, and it is totally different to the first version of the song we wrote. The main body of the song has a predominantly indie-rock vibe with a bit or “surf” in the lead line, but from the bridge the song turns around and takes it arrangement inspiration more from Smith Street than summer scene indie. We’re so proud of the way it has turned out. – empire park.
The story of We’re OK boils down to a couple of main themes. It chronicles personal difficulties and experience. It’s melancholic, but it sees light at the end of it all when it shifts into a chanting epic during the outro. It’s a song that means something. It can really resonate with a lot of people – it’s fairly open-ended and inclusive in that regard.
