NEW ADDITIONS!

TONY NJOKU
On Saturday 8th July, the festival is delighted to welcome the exceptional talents of Tony Njoku.
Hailed for creating music of a “staggering, hypnotic beauty” by the likes of The Line Of Best Fit, the innovative electronic maestro released his sensational second LP ‘H.P.A.C’ to warm reviews in the Spring.

An arresting new talent of British-Nigerian descent, the globe-trotting producer and songwriter has established himself as one of the most forward thinking new talents on the contemporary musical landscape with the evocative soundscapes and shapeshifting pop songs of ‘Remain Calm’ and ‘On Lorca’s Balcony’ setting him well apart from the pack.
An artist who thinks and creates well outside the box, Njoku is the very essence of what Irregular Folks is all about and is an outstanding addition to the 2018 bill.

Plus, following the news that IRREGULAR FOLKS SUMMER SESSION will be growing to a two day bash for the first time in its history this year, the Festival is coming good on its promise of further fun on the Sunday with the addition of the lascivious and ludicrous:
TINA T’URNER TEA LADY’S STEAMY BINGO
Looking to get Irregular Folks’ Summer Sessioners all hot under the collar from the word go on the Sunday, the award winning, musical comedy, domestic diva Tina T’urner will be kicking off proceedings from 2pm with her Tea Lady’s Steamy Bingo show.
Laugh, dance and play to win as Tina spins her cage of balls to a high energy 80s soundtrack – let some steam off at Tina’s wacky tea-infused cabaret bingo, sure to be the perfect remedy to revive any reveller after the previous day’s packed schedule.

IRREGULAR FOLKS SUMMER SESSION 2018 POSTER

Tina & Tony will be joining the already announced IRREGULAR FOLKS SUMMER SESSION festival line up – packed end to end with mystery, music and madness. Illustrating this year’s line up, the festival is delighted to unveil the wonderful 2018 poster. As part of a long running art project relationship with the festival, the poster has been designed as ever by the esteemed Oxford artist Sarah Hoyle (see pictured).
As the print lays out beautifully, IRREGULAR FOLKS SUMMER SESSION 2018 will be brimming with the esoteric and the eccentric, some seriously strange guest speakers, cinema of the cerebral variety, plus palate-popping delicacies and so much more. (Full Line up listed below.)

In addition, to celebrate the moving of Irregular Folks Summer Session to its new home at T.O.A.D., Sarah Hoyle has created a second Gin Special Edition version in fresh limes (see pictured above). Both versions will be available as limited edition numbered screen prints during the event.

The refreshingly different, adult-only (16+) festival takes place on 7th – 8th July 2018 at the T.O.A.D.: The Oxford Artisan Distillery, Oxford.

IRREGULAR FOLKS SUNDAY SESSION FESTIVAL 2018 – ABOUT US

Irregular Folks Summer Session is not a folk festival, it’s an adult-only festival for lovers of the irregular. A festival for folks (noun meaning: people) doing something different and thinking independently. It’s a boundary breaking programme of great, unique music and other art forms to tantalise the ears and eyes, including art, comedy, poetry and film.

With its home remaining in the heart of Oxfordshire, for the first time the festival will be taking place across two days, plus pitching up at an exciting and picturesque new site, as hosted by the T.O.A.D.: The Oxford Artisan Distillery, Oxford.

Irregular Folks itself is a specialist series of music and film nights that run irregularly throughout the year. It focuses mainly on music. The nights and their yearly flag ship event, the Summer Sessions are about creating stunning environments at an affordable price for which audiences and the artists can really sit back relax and be inspired by truly creative experiences. For more info, previous artists etc, click here.

The Irregular Folks’ Summer Session is generously funded by The Arts Council of England, via their Lottery funded Project Grants award, and for the first year ever. Irregular Folks Summer Sessions is also supported by PRS Foundation’s The Open Fund.

Speaking about this year’s bash, festival organiser Vez says: “I honestly keep pinching myself each day that it’s true – and wow that patch is starting to hurt! Irregular Folks has always been about bringing a super high level of unique creativity to people at an affordable price so people can try out something new. Having this funding means that we not only get to keep this event true to the values of creativity over commercial gain, and improving it year on year, it’s also a big juicy piece of recognition from two exceptionally highly regarded organisations being both The Arts Council and the PRS Foundation’s The Open Fund.”

Each year starts as a dream scenario and I simply cannot wait to put this years dream into action – it just goes to show, don’t be afraid to aim high, work hard and dare to make something happen. There’s support out there to help make the almost impossible possible.”
