Psych-pop glam-rockers FLING release ‘Banjo Billy’, a bonkers 3 minute glam-pop stomp that leads the way for the release of ‘The Legend of Banjo Billy’ EP out April 13th on Dance to the Radio. The release comes off the back of a 2017 that included sold-out hometown shows, playing to a packed Festival Republic tent at Leeds Festival and enjoying Radio support from the likes of Steve Lamacq (6Music), Huw Stephens (Radio 1), Radio X and Beats 1.
‘The Ballad of Banjo Billy’ EP sees FLING chronicle different characters and experiences they have come across in their hometown of Bradford. ‘Banjo Billy’ could be any of the local muso’s bouncing around the cities’ gigs and open mic nights, ‘Gerry Penny’ is an ode to the band’s favourite vices, ‘(It’s Not Funny When You’ve Got No) Money’ is a soulful lament to being young and skint, and ‘Bad Day’ completes the extended player with a cartoon description of a terrible terrible day.
Having met at a gig and instantly bonded over T.Rex and David Bowie FLING moved out of their basement studio to work with Lee Smith at Greenmount Studios (The Cribs / Pulled Apart By Horses), recently completing the forthcoming EP and receiving support for early singles from Wonderland Magazine (‘Alt-pop perfection’) and Clash Music (‘An irresistible pop package’), as well as building an online fanbase they call ‘Flingers’ who caught the band at Neighbourhood Festival, Live at Leeds, and Liverpool Sound City in 2017.
Describing themselves as ‘Wonky Pop’ the 5 piece from Bradford comprise of Charles McSorley (Vocals), Jack Winn (Guitar), Billy Fielding (Drums), Jake Lees (Bass) and Sam Malynowsky (Keyboards). ‘Banjo Billy’ comes out on all platforms on 2nd March with the EP released in full on 13th April, just before the band return to the road with slots at Stockton Calling and Live at Leeds as well as dates in Glasgow and Manchester.
