FOSSA – ‘Sea Of Skies’ EP
It’s rare to feel challenged by semi-classical acoustic if slightly electronic fare, especially come Fossa’s on-edge reserved approach, it’s said that “Grizzly Bear and The Antlers are indisputable influences” but that covers only so much ground, the rest is mostly the 4-piece bands own.
Fossa’s debut EP ‘Sea Of Skies sees’ it’s official release sees lead songwriter Louis Shadwick (vocals, guitar, keys)and guitarist Tom Dunning, Tom’s twin brother Will (bass, programming), Joseph Malpas (drums), take their career forth in response to organic early intrigue from major tastemakers – a good reason as any.
First up the title-track is of appeal, deeper, thoughtful and studied with enough rise and fall to satisfy. ‘Butterfly’ is also deserves some praise as another noteworthy song, brighter sounding simplistic arrangements give away too more busy activations, bit of a stereotype , but to her some plugged-in guitar is refreshing, and the vocal distortion lead to astute interlude works. the four tracks that make up the ‘Sea Of Skies’ EP leave the listener better for the mostly acoustic thoughtful experience, charting for less travelled waters, Fossa are set to make good progress with this debut. 7.8/10
