Saint DX embodies the modern-day crooner; the French singer, writer and producer’s style reflects an obsession with love and a heightened emotional sensitivity. New single ‘Xphanie’ is the first track he has ever sung in his mother tongue and the second excerpt taken from his forthcoming EP ‘SDX’, following on from ‘Prime Of Your Life’ which came out in September. On ‘Xphanie’ we discover Saint DX’s voice in French on a languid and seductive mid-tempo rhythm.
“Xphanie is my first track written almost exclusively in french, my mother tongue. It is very special to me. It’s one of my most personal and intimate tracks. It’s a song about a girl whose name is barely hidden in the title. We’ve been through a lot together. On the break, I sing in english “I could have gave you all.” It’s the words she said to me the last time we saw each other.”
Raised as a Buddhist by his parents, and deeply influenced by the soundtrack to The Big Blue, Saint DX (Aurélien Hamm) sings about the fragility and beauty of our romances, and how our daily routines can reopen emotional wounds. Switching between French and English, groovy basslines and ethereal pads, autotuned vocals and untreated ones, he cites Sade and Mylène Farmer as major influences, as well as Better Person, Kanye West and even Prince.
Since 2018 he’s released three singles (‘Regrets’, ‘First Fantasy’ and ‘I Still Care’), toured with Charlotte Gainsbourg and even opened for her on a number of occasions. He’s just put the finishing touches to “SDX”, a 9-track EP to be released in October through Cracki Records/Because Music.
