Fun Adults Watch: ‘Sap Solid’ Video

Debut Single Out Now on Tough Love

Leeds four piece Fun Adults recently released their impressive debut single ‘Sap Solid / Acacia’ on London avant-pop label Tough Love (Slime, Weird Dreams, Cymbals) which showcased their cunningly intelligent, sonically audacious pop. Proving that they are masters of more than one trade, the band now unveil a stunningly gorgeous self-made animation video for single track ‘Sap Solid’, premiered on Dazed Digital. In line with their artwork aesthetic, the video was composed using frame by frame hand drawn images made with a mixture of paint, pastels and oil on glass on a light box.

Speaking on the video, the band said:

“The main objective when producing the video was to capture the colour, rhythm and texture of the track. We were keen to create something that felt really human and organic, so a traditional paint on paper approach made sense. This enabled us to work much more freely and spontaneously and gives the video a nice vibrancy. The day – night cycle is a really simple device but seemed to capture the mood of the track really well and emphasise the different dynamics.”

Hailing from the West Country and nurtured in Leeds, Fun Adults, the four-piece of Dan Jacobs, Kyle Molleson, Declan Pleydell-Pearce and Huw Thomas combine off-kilter pop melodies and percussive arrangements with classic songwriting craft.

The band have spent the summer renovating a 200-year-old barn into a studio, where they wrote, recorded and produced the tracks, alongside friend and producer Tom Howe. Acting as a self-sufficient creative hub, the attention to detail is evident: from the intricately layered arrangements and hi-fidelity production to the vivid, oil-painted artwork and animated imagery that accompanies their work.
Dense yet translucent, languid yet sharp-edged, ‘Sap Solid/Acacia’ is an intriguing introduction to Fun Adults‘ world of brash colors and elusive shadow play.
