G.blk drops new single ‘Clutch My Bag’
Today, tg.blk brings us laidback luxury with new single ‘Clutch My Bag’. The next cut from her long-awaited new EP besides you set to drop August 28th, it’s a six-part dive into sensuality soaked in the sunshine of her coastal hometown of Mombasa. After her landmark 2024 EP It’s Not That Deep earned streams in the tens of millions with Vince Staples among her champions, the EP marks an elevation of the sound which is effortlessly and undeniably tg.blk.
Over a dreamy, jazz-inflected beat that conjures the pastel hues of Tyler, The Creator and Flower in Bloom, ‘Clutch My Bag’ is effortlessly cool on a hot, hot day. And she’s got the attitude to match. She shares:
“I do love arguing and going back and forth with people but sometimes that isn’t worth it – some people have nothing to lose, and that’s scary. I can’t beat you bitches when it comes to a ‘Who’s Scarier?’ competition. I’m good. I also like the phrase ‘clutch my bag’ / ‘clutch my pearls’ – let’s bring that back!’
It follows on from her announcement of besides you with ‘Stop It’, a confident declaration for keyboard warriors to sit down and shut up. Like a refreshing gulp of ice water, it’s a song made to blast out of your speakers while you lay back and let go.
besides you is the first in a trilogy of EPs which dissect the arc of a relationship, the parts we obsessively replay in our minds and wish to return to; the parts which are painful to remember. And after her monthly relationship confessions Q+As on Instagram blew up, Thigi would know all about that. besides you is about the first flush of love, the head-over-heels obsession where all the red flags look green. Rose in your mouth, rug with a fireplace. The whole deal. The themes? “Beautiful women, flexing on bitches, getting sexy.”
Making music was always about community for tg.blk, whether it was making songs for fun with her friends in high school or searching for like-minded collaborators online. As the scope of her influences widened from the 80s RnB and Funk she was raised on to the beat-making alchemy of Timbaland and boom-bap, she started to carve out a distinctive sound which attracted a cult following. With no design beyond following her instincts and armed with little more than Logic and a mic in her bedroom, tg.blk has become one of our most compelling rising stars.
