GATWITCH RECORDS LAUNCHES IN CANADA

First release “SEE ME MAMA” by Internationally Acclaimed Hip Hop Artist EMMANUEL JAL In Stores and Online August 7. Label to provide home to progressive artists advocating for Global peace and Social change

(May 29, 2012, Toronto, ON) – Gatwitch Records, a new label founded by former child soldier and now internationally acclaimed Hip Hop artist and Human Rights’ activist, Emmanuel Jal, has officially launched in Canada.

An independent record label based out of Toronto, Ontario, Gatwitch Records aims to work with up and coming Canadian and international talent, and provide an avenue for artists advocating messages of peace and social change. The first album being released by the label is the highly anticipated fourth studio album from Emmanuel Jal titled See Me Mama on August 7, 2012.

Emmanuel Jal has won worldwide acclaim for his unique style of Hip Hop with its message of peace and reconciliation born out of his experiences as a child soldier in Southern Sudan. His live appearances have included Live 8 and Nelson Mandela’s 90th Birthday Concert, and his music can be heard on the fundraising Warchild – Help a Day in the Life album, as well as in the feature film Blood Diamond. He has released three studio albums to date: Gua, Ceasefire and Warchild.  Emmanuel has addressed the UN, US Congress and the highest tiers of several governments.  He has also notably spoken alongside Nobel winner Martti Ahtisaar and former Secretary-General of the UN and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Kofi Annan.  In June, Emmanuel will be part of the closing comments addressing global leaders alongside Bono and Mexican President Calderón at the G20 summit in Mexico City.

Emmanuel is currently in the midst of his We Want Peace 2012 campaign which aims to bring awareness and peace to the many issues facing Sudan. We Want Peace is the first single released from the album as part of a campaign of the same name spearheaded by Emmanuel and supported by A-list artists and leading figures from diverse fields. The music video which features Peter Gabriel, Alicia Keys, George Clooney, Richard Branson, President Jimmy Carter, Kofi Annan and many more, will be re-released in June with additional appearances from Darryl "DMC" McDaniels (RUN DMC) and members of Dispatch, Das Racist, OAR.
