GAZ COOMBES TO RELEASE DEBUT SOLO ALBUM ON DINE ALONE RECORDS

(May 15, 2012)  — Former Supergrass guitarist and frontman, Gaz Coombes will release his debut solo album titled Gaz Coombes Presents… Here Come The Bombs on Dine Alone Records in Canada on Tuesday May 22. After a long and successful career with the UK based alternative rock group Supergrass, Coombes has ventured out on his own to explore exciting new musical territory.

Produced alongside Sam Williams, with whom Coombes previously worked with for the production of Supergrass’ debut album I Should Coco, Here Come The Bombs represents a continuation of his day-to-day life in music. Recorded in Oxford at Coombes’ home studio and at Williams’s Temple Studio, the album explores the unexpected whilst maintaining the famous love of melody that marked some of Supergrass’ finest moments in music.

Opening with the ethereally dreamy “Bombs”, the album reverberates with Coombes’ sonic experimentations: the exuberant “Break The Silence” features pulsating grooves cut with distorted guitars, “Fanfare” sees Coombes experimenting with rhythmic, near spoken vocals, while the closing track “Sleeping Giant” finds his vocals drifting through a cinematic, sci-fi induced soundscape.

“In a band, when you get a group of people who are walking the same path, it can be the most beautiful thing,” explains Coombes. “But with this I felt it was really focused on just what I wanted to get across, and on my inspirations – they were all my things that I’m into, whether it’s film, film soundtrack, or past artists that we didn’t really look at much in Supergrass. That was all really exciting. This is a completely blank page in a blank book, ready to be written on.”

An exclusive version of the album will be released on May 22 digitally through iTunes with the physical release to follow. This exclusive version will feature three bonus tracks including, “Hot Fruit” (live in Oxford), “Sleeping Giant” (live in Oxford) and “Daydream on a Street Corner” (full length version).
