Giants – These Are The Days (Mini-Album Review)

The new release ‘These Are The Days’ from screemo punk skate fusion band Giants is due out 17th September. Formed back in 2005this will be the 5th album from the Cedar Falls five. The band are Heath Hospodarsky on guitar, James Lyle on guitar, Steve Carlson on guitar,Dave Livingston on bass, and Drew Gabbert on drums.

Their style is screemo blended with punk and skate and it works pretty well with screemo vocals blended into more conventional rock harmonies. The drums and bass line are ultra-aggressive combined with hyperactive guitars and conjures up images of men with long hair head banging so frantically that long term spinal damage is a serious concern. Their music sort of comes at you with a snarl then head-butts you before coming in to finish you off with a pint glass in the face, it’s that aggressive. But for all that anger they are really quite good and some of the lyrics are pretty impressive and quite meaningful. 7/10
