DEBUT 7″ RELEASED 25TH NOVEMBER 2016 ON MOSHI MOSHI SINGLES CLUB
BAND ON TOUR THIS MONTH WITH HALEY BONAR AND SLOW CLUB
“Trouble” is the new single from new North London band Girl Ray. It’s the first Girl Ray song to be given a physical release, coming out on a 7” through Moshi Moshi Singles Club on 25th November 2016.
The song is about “apathy and hating yourself for trying to win pointless arguments in snakey ways,” say the band. “It’s about turning into someone you don’t like.”
It was premiered today by Loud and Quiet, who described it as a “sweet, lo-fi next track” and said it’s“reminiscent of The Pippettes, Veronica Falls and Cate Le Bon, maybe even a bit of Whitney.”
Girl Ray are Poppy Hankin, Iris McConnell, Sophie Moss and Emily Craste. They deal in fuzzy Moldy Peaches–esque pop gems; shaping a love of off-kilter pop bands like Neutral Milk Hotel, Pavement and Cate Le Bon into a sound that feels instantly familiar and completely lovable. An endearing presence; full of promise.
While studying for their A-Levels, Poppy, Iris and Sophie self-released their first track, “I’ll Make This Fun” which was picked up by Brooklyn Vegan, The Line of Best Fit and DIY (among others). BBC Radio 6 Music made it their Track of The Week, and the band were invited to Manchester for a live session with Marc Riley.
Since their inception they’ve been invited to support the likes of Lets Eat Grandma, Slow Club, Haley Bonar, Fear of Men, Chastity Belt and Meilyr Jones, as well earning slots at the Green Man, Swn and By The Sea festivals. Later this month, they tour with Haley Bonar and Moshi Moshi labelmates Slow Club.
The band are currently working on their debut album which is slated for a Spring 2017 release. “Trouble” is Girl Ray’s first physical release and comes with a new b-side, “Where Am I Now,” via Moshi Singles Club on 25th November 2016.
