Glass Caves – ‘Out Of Control’ (Out 7th August via Tri-Tone)

Leeds four-piece, Glass Caves are set to release a new single thro Tri-Tone due this August, ‘Out Of Control’ is a fairly passionate slice of what is often umbrella’d as alternative rock. Most fans will be familiar with this latest release from ‘Alive’, the follow up to ‘Breaking Out’ and ‘Go’ and is the third track to be lifted from their recent debut album. The new single features the studio skills of producer Rich Turvey (Darlia, The Mispers, Blossoms and Clean Cut Kid) certainly ‘Out Of Control’ sounds the part, if not as guitar hook-friendly as earlier singles, the third release makes up for with more productive and band creative urge to change the ante in the upwards direction complete with backing vocalisations which leave me colder.

I expect ‘Out Of Control’ will please most and this is just a quibble, but for me too many vocal effects, I expect a live rendition would be the decider, but top marks for effort if a tad messy, it’s like school homework everything is right, it’s all there, just the presentation is not up to a teachers expectations. That’s it Glass Caves are a really decent band, just they’re stretching too far into pop sensibilities, or is this the true 2015 alternative sound? 7.8/10
