Glenn Tilbrook Announces Tour For Foodbanks
Glenn Tilbrook announces that his upcoming solo tour dates, starting on 17th October at The Ropetackle in Shoreham, will be promoting awareness and donations for The Trussell Trust, the charity that supports a network of foodbanks around the UK. At most venues there will be food drop points and collection boxes, and Glenn will also be donating all profits from his merchandise, including an exclusive 4 track EP, to the organisation.
Glenn says “it is shameful that in the 21st century there are people that can’t afford to put food on the table.. Anyone, from any walk of life, can fall upon dire times, and I hope that by doing this tour it will remind people that there is a very real need. Most of us can do something to help – be it giving some food or a little money – and I hope people coming to the shows are inspired to donate.”
Food donated at the venues will be collected and distributed to the nearest Trussell Trust foodbank.
Foodbanks provide a minimum of three-days’ nutritionally balanced, non-perishable tinned and dried foods that have been donated by the local community. A list of items in a typical food parcel are: cereal, soup, pasta, rice, tinned tomatoes/pasta sauce, lentils, beans and pulses, tinned meat, tinned vegetables, tea/coffee, tinned fruit, biscuits, UHT milk and fruit juice. If possible audience members are asked to check with local foodbanks to see what supplies are currently needed.

Glenn Tilbrook:
- Glenn Tilbrook is one of the founding members and lead singer of legendary British band Squeeze. With songwriting partner Chris Difford, they had great chart success with their unique brand of kitchen sink drama pop hits, such as Up The Junction, Pulling Mussells (From The Shell), Cool For Cats and many more. After two break ups, the past decade has seen Squeeze in some of their finest form, with two critically acclaimed albums in ‘Cradle To The Grave’ and ‘ The Knowlegde’, sold our tours, and multiple festival headline billings up and down the country.
- Glenn has always had social consciousness rooted deeply within his musical performance. He changed the lyrics to a song live on the Andrew Marr show (which featured then Prime Minister David Cameron as guest) to: “there are some here who are hellbent, on the destruction of the welfare state.” Songs from ‘The Knowledge’ such as ‘A&E’ and ‘Rough Ride’ also tackle social inequality in the UK.
The Trussell Trust:
· The Trussell Trust is an anti-poverty charity that supports a network of over 420 foodbanks across the UK.
· In 2017-2018, 1,332,952 three day emergency food supplies were provided to people referred to foodbanks in The Trussell Trust’s network, a 13% increase on the previous year. Over a third of supplies (484,026) went to children.
· It takes more than food to end hunger. The Trussell Trust therefore does three things: supports its network to provide emergency food to people referred; helps foodbanks to provide on-site additional help or signpost people to relevant local charities to resolve the cause of foodbank referral; and brings together the experiences of hundreds of communities on the frontline to challenge the structural issues that lock people in poverty and campaign for long-term change so we can see a future without the need for foodbanks.
