Goodnight Goodbye premiere new single, ‘Smoothie’

‘Smoothie’ is the new single from exciting new UK band Goodnight Goodbye.

Goodnight Goodbye’s escapist, cosmopolitan modern pop is anchored by the unique relationship (and upbringing) at the heart of the band. A trio of brothers, Joe, Sam and Nat were born in Birmingham, before their parents moved the family to Italy in 2005. Writers, producers and vocalists, the group appear as individually varied but totally in sync as only brothers can be (few other young bands, too, can claim to have members who are playing pro Italian football, have studied art near Florence, and are fluent in coding via a computing degree). Having written songs all their lives – the boys even taped their own radio show at the age of six – Goodnight Goodbye’s influences on tracks like ‘Smoothie’ strike a similarly classic-but-contemporary balance; from 70s legends like Fleetwood Mac or Abba to fellow future nostalgists such as Harry Styles or The 1975.

The first single from Goodnight Goodbye’s upcoming EP, ‘Smoothie’ was conceived – say the band – “right before quarantine, as we were getting excited by our summer. Of course a few weeks later all our plans went out the window. But as our summer holidays were basically cancelled, ‘Smoothie’ turned into a tune that encouraged us to stay positive during lockdown. We base a lot of our aesthetic off Wham!, which is an absolute look.”

Playful but affecting, Goodnight Goodbye introduced themselves earlier this year with the glorious ‘Dad Dancing’ (and press shots of their childhood photos). As inspired by Phoenix as the idea of letting your guard down – even if that means potentially embarrassing yourself – both songs form part of the band’s highly accomplished upcoming EP.
