Grapell – ‘No Longer Free’ (Roll Call Records)

The Stockholm based indie-pop duo Grapell mark their return in 2017 with new single ‘No Longer Free’. Although slightly differential, the new single could neatly follow on from last summer’s ‘Love Chamber’ EP which was a fair collection of soulful love ballads.

Before you enquire what the hell am I doing here, bear with me, nothing to to say light indie does not work, even if it does not resonate as much as something more weighty. There still crumbs of gravitas and Emil Erstrand’s smooth soulful delivery coupled with single’s narrative, it might persuade the 40-somethings which populating radio & tv land. But although the duo are on safe ground with ‘No Longer Free’ a continuation of sorts, but looking downwards at my socks they’re in no danger of being blown away. 7.4
