A rocking festival that takes place annually from the end of May into early June, the Primavera Sound Musical Festival first took place in 2001 at Barcelona’s Poble Espanol, and in 2005 the festival was moved to the city’s Parc del Forum—a much larger seaside location.

The Primavera Sound Musical Festival includes a mix of urban, rock and pop bands, making it a nexus for artists and spectators worldwide from across the generational spectrum.

The Primavera Sound Musical Festival now attracts over 200,000 spectators/music lovers and has gone from virtual obscurity in 2001 to a heavily covered media event today.

Where to Stay While Attending the Primavera Sound Musical Festival

There are many places to stay that are near the Parc del Forum. El Borne is a cool, touristy district, where you can hop onto the Jaume I metro stop, and depending where you stay in the Gothic District that same metro stop could be close by. Either Vila Olimpica or Poblenou is also perfect, especially if you fancy staying by the beach. If you plan to come to Barcelona for the festival and the festival alone, then you could opt for one of the big high rise hotels around Diagonal Mar… within easy walking distance of the entrance gates, and miles away from the rest of the city’s attractions.

The enormous Parc del Forum is on a small knoll by the coast on the Northern border of the city and easily accessible by the yellow line of the metro for a small cost.

Primavera Pro Tips

Enjoying a musical festival to the fullest is the goal of any partygoer.

One thing you definitely want to do is arrive early on the first day.  This will help you avoid the often long line in which people are exchanging tickets for wristbands.  Failing to do this could mean a long wait.

Make sure to layer your clothes, as the evenings, with their cool sea breeze, can get quite chilly.  A festival bag with snacks and, depending on the weather forecast, small umbrella, might be handy too. Large cameras and drinks are forbidden, so if you want to avoid the high drink prices, you may want to start the party before you enter.

It’s never too early to scout for the best music festivals in Europe! The Primavera Sound music festival is one in particular that you wouldn’t want to miss. Let Zac Green from popular music blog ZingInstruments.com give you the rundown of the reasons why.
