Welsh-born, London-based rising star Hana Lili has shared her brand new single ‘Common Ground’. Written by Hana and co-produced with Jonah Summerfield, the track ushers in a new direction and the start of a brand new era of creative expression for 21 year old Hana Lili. Hana’s new single ‘Common Ground’ finds her strolling through tumbling acoustic-lined textures and wistful gossamer-quilted melodies that are both serene and steeped in nostalgia. Speaking on the track, Hana explains: “Common Ground” is a real snapshot in time from my own personal relationship and derives from a truly heartfelt place. It’s about two people who are facing personal hardships that, in turn, cause them to lose their communication with each other. The lyric, “maybe we could meet up at a common ground” is an attempt at opening up the dialogue.”
Immensely proud of her heritage, Hana Lili grew up in a small seaside town on the south west coast of Wales. It was there she was able to forge her musical identity, taking part in local and international folk singing competitions where she learnt the tradition of telling stories through song. These formative experiences permeate through Hana Lili’s music and she gravitates towards writing about personal experiences, hardships, relationships and friendships. Like a diary to the inner monologue in her head, her tracks are honest and candidly authentic.
‘Common Ground’ follows the release of Hana Lili’s most recent single ‘Burden’ and debut EP Flowers Die In The Summer, an entirely self-produced body of work which saw Hana deliver a dreamy introduction to her sonic world, combining intimate, confessional lyrics over immaculate self-taught production. Spearheaded by Hana’s unique ear for melody, rugged guitar chords, vulnerable lyrics, and nostalgic noughties-esque pop production, the homespun EP certified the 21-year-old as a vital new voice within the bedroom pop movement.
