Much loved London band Happyness are releasing the final single – ‘title track’ – from their third album, ‘Floatr’ which is being released this Friday. [pre-order Floatr here] ‘title track’ is the final taste of ‘Floatr’ and finds Happyness in a reflective mood, singer Jonny Allan croons the opening lines: “Maybe my trip was sex, Maybe the drugs don’t quit”setting the tone for the frank discourse that follows.

The release of ‘title track’ comes with news of a mammoth tour in October and their biggest headline show to date at London’s Scala in November (full dates below).Jonny on the track: ‘This track was kind of like the scene at the end of the movie Dark Star where he’s convincing the bomb not to explode and kill them all. It’s about hindsight mainly, like your brain rattling like an old machine starting up again trying to get up to speed with reality, and your probably acting semi-lobotomised whilst it’s happening. But also like if you captioned a picture of a full-scale alien invasion with the tag “well that was always going to happen”.

‘In 2019, after a nearly 2 year period, that the band describe as “the best and worst years of our lives”, Happyness announced a handful of intimate headline dates which instantly sold-out, as well as a triumphantly oversubscribed appearance at End Of The Road Festival. The return was marked by drummer Ash Kenazi’s emergence from supporting role into fearless drag queen to co-front the project with singer Jonny Allan, as well as a 5-piece live line-up comprising of Max Bloom (Yuck), Anna Vincent (Heavy Heart) and Scott Booker Roach (Social Contract).

Beautiful, stormy comeback single “Vegetable” followed in January this year, and if it’s anything to go by, the stage is set for a major Happyness renaissance. Sitting in tone somewhere between the ragged euphoria of Weird Little Birthday and the lush balladry of Write In, and with a fresh injection of characteristically mad, artfully self-aware lyrical turns (the song references Chumbawumba, drag queen Jujubee, vaping and Scientology’s E-meter auditing process all in the space of less than 4 minutes), it seems the band may be entering their most thrilling era yet.
