HER’S return with sunny soft rock wonder ‘Love On The Line (Call Now)’
Her’s return with the puppy love sentiments of their sunny soft rock wonder ‘Love On The Line (Call Now)’
First single from upcoming album, out this summer
Cred: Ryan Jafarzedah
“…kind of like what would happen if The Strokes went to the beach for the summer” – THE FADER
“An excellent introduction to the band’s radiant slacker-pop” – Stereogum
“There’s something instantly charismatic about Her’s which proves pivotal.. It takes their jangly, oddball pop songs into another league” – DIY
“Luminous guitar lines, tremulous dissonant vocals and an arsenal of gorgeous indie pop melodies” – Guardian
In a world increasingly saturated with the ephemeral joys of simulated companionship, Her’s are an authentic Merseyside bromance between partners in crime Audun Laading and Stephen Fitzpatrick. Blossoming from a chance encounter in a university canteen, and from as far afield as Norway and Barrow, the duo found a natural chemistry through their encyclopaedic love of off-kilter humour and art.
New single ‘Love On The Line (Call Now)’ is a change in direction for the pair, who despite the frequent comparisons to certain slacker contemporaries, have so far channelled their unique personalities into styles as far afield as surf rock, jangle pop, psych rock, and yes, a Minnie Riperton cover. ‘Love On The Line (Call Now)’ sees the pair ushering in the spring with a soft rock love song that recalls the off-kilter Hall & Oates style ballideering or Ariel Pink with the unpredictable chord changes found in any of Mac Demarco’s big hitters.
It’s the first single from their upcoming album due in the summer. Following on from last year’s 9 track compilation ‘Songs Of Her’s’ it promises to be the most significant step in Her’s journey yet. They’ve been met with a glowing reception from Radio 1, 6Music, DIY, The Guardian, NME, The Line of Best Fit and Stereogum, and conquered a respectable chunk of the global circuit already through shows at Visions, Green Man, The Great Escape, SXSW and Bangkok. Her’s next spate of touring will see them hit the road throughout the nation, after playing a sold-out London show at Moth Club in May, before crossing the channel to France and The Netherlands before capping it off with an Autumn headline slot at The Dome.
Her’s are the key players in a Liverpool scene that’s rapidly finding its identity through humour and imagination. Like their local friends Trudy and the Romance and Pink Kink, they’re not beholden to any one style, era or perspective of pop culture. They borrow and assimilate ideas across the many decades and seven seas to make a veritable witch’s brew of intoxicating outsider pop. After putting Liverpool firmly on the map as the spiritual home of exciting and free-thinking independent music right now their debut LP will undoubtedly broaden their horizons even further.
‘Love On The Line (Call Now)’ is 28th March through Heist or Hit, details of Her’s’ debut album to follow.
