“The current breakout stars of the Chinese hip-hop world” – New York Times
“Higher Brothers’ success story is more than a tale about four kids ‘making it’—it’s emblematic of a bigger trend towards globalization in hip-hop.” — GQ
“A force to be reckoned with on the world stage.” – Dummy
Higher Brothers release the biggest Chinese hip-hop album ever, Five Stars, today, February 22nd 2019 via 88rising. For the first time in history, China’s most successful rappers appear shoulder-to-shoulder with top lyricists from America, the birthplace of hip-hop. The 14-track project features many of hip-hop’s brightest stars including ScHoolboy Q, J.I.D., Soulja Boy, Denzel Curry, Ski Mask the Slump God, KOHH and Guapdad 4000, in addition to 88rising labelmates Rich Brian and NIKI. A testament to Higher Brothers mission to introduce Chinese culture to the world, the title, Five Stars, simultaneously represents China, top-quality, and global-internet culture. From symbolic tracks like “Gong Xi Fa Cai” and “16 Hours” that incorporate unique snapshots of Chinese culture, to landmark collaborations like “One Punch Man” featuring Miami’s Ski Mask the Slump God & Denzel Curry, and “Do It Like Me” featuring Dreamville’s J.I.D., Five Stars is an iconic body of work that proves Higher Brothers’ sophisticated rapping ability has earned the respect of the global hip-hop community.

For one of the album’s many standouts, “Won’t Believe,” Higher Brothers connected with TDE’s ScHoolboy Q, who holds nothing back on his first feature of 2019. Five Stars features production from Joji, Ronny J, 808 Godz, Richie Souf, K Swisha and more. Recorded both in China and in America, the album is a unifying moment in music’s universal evolution and further solidifies Higher Brothers as Chinese hip-hop’s greatest hope. Listen to Five Stars here.
Higher Brothers are defining what it means to be Chinese in an increasingly globalized, internet-fueled world. Best known for acclaimed singles like “Made In China” and “WeChat,” the group “have held a certain panache for tapping into the sweet spot of rap culture that bridges the Eastern and Western hemispheres.” (XXL) Since last year’s release of their debut album, Black Cab, Higher Brothers have exploded onto the world stage, appearing on tracks with many of hip-hop’s most exciting up and comers, including Blocboy JB, Ski Mask The Slump God, Goldlink, 03 Greedo and many more. They were featured alongside Joji, Rich Brian and AUGUST 08 on “Midsummer Madness,” the lead single from 88rising’s group album that reached #1 on Spotify’s Global Viral 50 chart. Higher Brothers have also been tapped by brands like Adidas, Sprite and GUESS, and even connected with Russell Westbrook for an Air Jordan campaign in China. With their sophomore album, Five Stars, positioned to be the biggest Chinese hip-hop album ever and more unexpected collaborations coming in the new year, “Higher Brothers’ success story is more than a tale about four kids “making it”—it’s emblematic of a bigger trend towards globalization in hip-hop.” (GQ)
