“A concentrated shot of brattish indie psych…a total breath of fresh air” – NME
“Addictive, pure pop hooks…they know exactly what they’re doing” – Q
“Loud, spiky and infectiously happy…(they) have a smack of the Velvet Underground and ramshackle riot grrrl bands” – Time Out
“…all scratchy guitars, kiss-off lyrics and Phil Spector sonics.” – The Sunday Times
On the eve of a month long tour through North America, hotly tipped Madrid four piece Hinds offer fans another glimpse into their gloriously raucous, sweetly playful world, in the form of a double music video/ short film for their cover of “Davey Crockett” and The Parrots’ cover of “All My Loving”, which was released earlier this year for Record Store Day as a split 7 inch single.
Directed by CANADA, the video is a potent shot of youthful effervescence, with an enthusiasm that is as intoxicating as it is deeply infectious.
Hinds and The Parrots spoke to Pitchfork about the making of the video:
“we are 7 dudes born and raised in madrid and we’ve been friends since ever; we’ve lived from our puberty years to currently issues like not having money to pay the rent or recoding our firsts albums. we did a split 7” vinyl with two covers of songs we both usually end our gigs with because we love them. so suddenly the idea of shooting a movie with CANADA (our music-videos-educator) was kind of a dream. plus, this one is the first not-home-made-music-video for both bands. Felt great. But keep the budget low”.
Since bursting onto the DIY scene last summer, Hinds have mastered a raw and playful sound all their own. Leave Me Alone – twelve perfectly imperfect and charmingly lo-fi tracks inspired by contemporary American garage rockers like Mac DeMarco, Ty Segall and The Black Lips – serves as the perfect introduction to the Spanish quartet who are pioneering the burgeoning indie music scene in Madrid. Hinds, with only a handful of songs released, have already earned early support from BBC Radio 1, BBC 6Music, NME, Guardian, Beats 1, Pitchfork, Rolling Stone, The FADER, Gorilla vs. Bear, and many more. Now with their debut on the horizon, Hinds are firmly establishing themselves as one of the most exciting emerging acts of the year and show no sign of slowing down.
Leave Me Alone will not arrive until early next year, but shortly after Hinds will also be embarking on a UK tour, taking in some of their biggest venues yet, including London’s KOKO. See below for full tour dates. Tickets for all shows will go on general sale this Friday 2nd October.
