EP FORTHCOMING ON DOUBLE DENIM RECORDS
PLAY THE WAITING ROOM MARCH 6TH
Hockeysmith are Annie & Georgie Hockeysmith, two sisters who live in a caravan on a farm in Falmouth, Cornwall, where they write and record their music. They emerged in summer 2013 with a debut single on their own Backabelly label, the double a-side of ‘Now I Want To’ / ‘Let’s Bang’, which pricked ears with its inventive, angular sonics, unorthodox song structures and sense of wide-eyed, intuitive experimentation.
New track ‘But Blood’ offers a first preview of Hockeysmith’s debut EP forthcoming on London label Double Denim Records. Bringing together sub-bass rumblings, brooding pianos and deceptively singsong melody underpinned by a beguiling allure, it builds into a wall of spiralling, barely contained sound where jagged Telecaster feedback duels with Roland 303 acid riffs.

The video was directed by designer and photographer Davy Evans who created the artwork for the xx’s Coexist album as well as the videos for singles ‘Chained’ and ‘Angels’ off that album, and has worked with Zomby and Fryars among others. It maintains an abstract liquid theme by by filming footage through water using reflections and mirrors, echoing the shape-shifting dynamics and tumulus emotional landscape of the song.
Hockeysmith play The Waiting Room in London on Thursday 6th March 2014, tickets available here
