Fresh from supporting both Angel Olsen and Real Estate as well as blazing a trail through the most of America, including a show-stopping stint at SXSW, Glasgow two-piece Honeyblood are proud to announce their new single ‘Killer Bangs’. Maybe the most urgent, punk-driven cut from their upcoming debut LP, it’s two minutes thirty four seconds of frantic clatter and head-rush hooks that impacts with an instant, effortless sense of abandon.

The band are also very excited to be announced as main support Courtney Barnett on her upcoming May UK tour. After hitting it off when they played together in London last October, they’ll head out together for Ms Barnett’s highly-anticipated first proper UK run, winding up at Islington Assembly Hall on the 29th May. Honeyblood’s self-titled record is now set for the 14th July in the UK and 15th July in the States via FatCat (nudged back slightly from originally announced date due to artwork delays).
Recorded at legendary producer Peter Katis’ Tarquin Studios (The National, Interpol) in ten days last November, ‘Honeyblood’ is an accomplished and delightfully fierce record.

Honeyblood are Shona McVicar on drums and Stina Tweeddale vocals / guitar. Despite their fledgling status and minimal setup, Honeyblood’s songs are fully formed and perfectly assured. With nothing extraneous, their music is driven through tightly-bound instrumentals and laced with the sheer strength and beauty of Stina’s voice. The songs resonate with deep melodic hooks and the uncomplicated charm what’ve drawn comparisons to the likes of Best Coast and Frankie Rose, as well as the strident delivery of Jenny Lewis. The band also tellingly cite the darker currents of The Breeders, PJ Harvey and Throwing Muses as lifelong influences.
From the urgent guitar and dive-bomb drums of opener ‘Fall Forever’, the album twists through the gutsy punk of ‘Killer Bangs’, to reveal discordant anthems like ‘Super Rat’. It has pared-down alt pop gems in the likes of ‘Biro’ and ‘No Spare Key’, but also more country influenced moments like, ‘(I’d Rather Be) Anywhere But Here’, ‘Braid Burn Valley’ and ‘Bud’. ‘Honeyblood’ pulls in elements of lo-fi punk rock, unfettered indie pop and a deep seated passion for classic rootsy song crafting that helps give the album something of an undeniable feel.
The duo started from humble DIY beginnings, organising their own guerrilla show at The Old Hairdressers in Glasgow to commemorate the release of a raucous two-track cassette entitled, ‘Thrift Shop’, recorded in their bathroom with one mic. Honeyblood quickly ingrained themselves into the bustling Glaswegian scene, fast becoming one of its most talked-about names and going on to play festivals everywhere from The Great Escape to their native T In The Park. But with their full-length debut ready to go, big name supports, and world tours locked, 2014 certainly looks to be the year with Honeyblood’s name written all over it.
