Horse Party – Paydirt 7”/Digital EP (Out September 4th via R*E*A*T Records)

The first new release since June’s free download single ‘What I’d Do’ for the Bury St Edmunds trio, the 7” vinyl / Download EP, ‘Paydirt’ lands in early September, The three track release, show Horse Party have not rushed out this new Ep, the quality and appeal of the alt-rockers still in good health it seems.

‘Paydirt’ feels bang up to date with more current events, with many trying to hold down two or three jobs just to match household bills, but you’d not be too wide of the mark, although ‘Paydirt# feels more of a personal, relationship state of play rather than clarion call, the title track still holds sway.

‘Animal’ is yet another match winner, an organic slice of the alternative. The final song ‘October’ is calmer by comparison,  a strong vocal over repeated guitar part finds Horse Party in a tad more introspective.

Horse Party’s Vinyl / Digital EP is entertaining without too many roller-coaster highs and lows of past releases, more like the waltzes spinning to a good garage tune, sick of sounding like a broken record, but this is another good release. 7.7/10
