In The Forest release poignant new music video this Friday 29 November. The track Waiting For The Call is taken from their 2022 debut album These Four Walls. The new video is released in memory of Bob Harwood-Stamper’s dad, who co-wrote the song. Bob (vocals, keys, guitar) explains the significance of the track and new video below:
“It’s co-written by my dad who passed away with covid while suffering with cancer. Years before he asked me to write some music to lyrics he’d written about social media – living life online and the disparity from real life. I didn’t get around to it while he was alive, and I thought I’d lost his words. I hadn’t seen the piece of paper in at least 3 years.
After he passed away, I was just messing around on my guitar when I struck a couple chords. I started singing ‘waiting for the call’. It wasn’t pre-meditated, but was obviously on my mind. While we were isolating after visiting dad in hospital, my mum, Rachel and I were everyday waiting for the doctor to call with some good news. When he did eventually call, it was only to tell us that they had to turn off his life support.
As if by some strange Providence, when I was singing ‘waiting for the call’ trying to write the new song, I turned to the table behind me and sitting on top of a pile of paper, were the words my dad had written all those years before. I had no idea how they were just there, but I started picking out some of the lines, Rachel jumped in with a take on an old Buddhist quote about ‘time being the coin of life’ and within about 5 minutes, the song was written.”
The video was made by the band with Lobster Productions to portray the emotional aftermath of losing a parent. It premieres on our Youtube this Friday. In The Forest are an indie-folk band from Bedfordshire, made up of two sisters and their partners. They formed in 2017 and released their debut album These Four Walls in 2022.
