Original version of ‘i hate u, i love u’,
the worldwide hit collaboration with gnash
“The singer-songwriter from Napa Valley, California, just may be starting the next generation of cathartic Taylor Swift-esque anthems wrapped in the sweet vocals of Lorde and maturity of Lana.” – V Magazine
“She’s proving to be a name on the rise” – Complex
17-year old California based singer-songwriter Olivia O’Brien became known to millions worldwide with her smash collaboration with gnash on the certified RIAA Gold hit, ‘i hate u, i love u’. Written by Olivia, the collaboration came about after gnash discovered a cover she did of one of his tracks on Soundcloud and asked if she had any more material. Olivia sent him a voice-note of the beginnings of ‘i hate u i love u’ and he invited her down to L.A to record. Since then, the song has sold over a half-million singles, hit Top 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart, has generated over 427 million streams, and the video, in which Olivia is featured, has logged 193 million YouTube views since its premiere in March.
Now, Olivia releases the original version of the song under its original title ‘hate u love u’ which preceded and inspired the gnash collab. Olivia wrote the lyrics for ‘hate u love u’ in her bedroom when she was 15. Born in Los Angeles and raised in Napa Valley, she began singing and writing songs at just seven years old, teaching herself to play both the guitar and piano. She began posting her originals on SoundCloud, not expecting much to come from it, until the call from gnash came.
