introducing South Shields singer-songwriter Sonny

Signed to independent label Never Fade Records – Sonny has performed at festivals including Boardmasters and Secret Garden Party. He previously supported Gabrielle Aplin and James TW and recently supported Catherine McGrath on her sold-out UK tour this month. Sonny will be performing at The Great Escape this week for another year in a row and will then hit the road supporting Saint Raymond on his UK tour in June.

Sonny released his debut EP ‘Hopeless Romance’ in 2017 and received accolades from top tastemaker publications including Wonderland Magazine, NOTION, CLASH, 1883 Magazine and Fault Magazine. He is set to release his forthcoming EP this year.

“[Sonny] has mastered the skill and created his own unique sound, blending elements of indie, R&B, folk and soul to create something extremely special […] Sonny is definitely one to watch.” – WONDERLAND MAGAZINE
“The 18-year-old singer styles a sound that merges rock and soul with incredible grace and ease.”NOTION
Soulful but with a modern feel, Sonny can make pop music sound as deep as the ages, drawing on a fathom-deep well of experience. – CLASH

After a successful 2017 releasing his critically acclaimed debut EP ‘Hopeless Romance’ and follow-up single ‘Yesterday’s Gone’, the Northern soulful singer-songwriter enters 2018 with new single ‘Ain’t Too Proud To Beg’, Sonny’s most sincere track to date out now via Never Fade Records.
Back with his signature powerhouse vocal and emotive lyrics, ‘Ain’t Too Proud To Beg’ reaffirms Sonny’s ability to create captivating heartfelt music. Mixed by Joe Zook (One Republic, Pharrell Williams, U2, One Direction, P!nk) and written by Sonny himself, the new single delves deep into the memories of a past failed relationship wishing the mistakes that were made never caused it to end.
Sonny says “’Ain’t Too Proud To Beg’ is about looking back regretfully on a relationship. Realising you made mistakes and being desperate to put them right again. This song means so much to me because it’s based on a personal experience and I feel like it’s a relatable situation that so many people go through – not knowing what you had until It’s too late.”
The new single follows his exceptional debut EP ‘Hopeless Romance’ which has garnered millions of streams on Spotify and views on Facebook since its release, support from BBC Introducing and accolades from influential publications including Wonderland Magazine, NOTION, CLASH, 1883 Magazine, Fault Magazine and more.
Last year saw Sonny play at festivals including Secret Garden Party, Boardmasters and supporting Gabrielle Aplin on her UK tour. This year he’s performing live at The Great Escape for the second year in a row, supporting Catherine McGrath on her UK sold out tour in May and also Saint Raymond on his UK tour in June. Sonny has also put together his own music event called ‘Northern Nights’, a night where musicians from the northern parts of the UK come together to showcase their talent and network with others in the music industry.
From gigging around Newcastle at just 14-years-old to playing to thousands of people nationwide, over the years South Shields born Sonny has honed his skills as an effortlessly confident performer who exudes charm despite only being 18-years-old.
