It’s Reytons! New album PLUS new single ‘Let Me Breathe’

Making music, making friends and making headlines, South Yorkshire’s turned-up-to-eleven indie anthemists The Reytons achieved the jaw-dropping feat of a UK Official Album Chart No.1 album at the turn of the year and, with the release of new single Let Me Breathe, announce another New Year bid for the top by introducing brand-new album ‘Ballad Of A Bystander’ to the fold.

Despite the hum of wider music industry interest that followed the success of last January’s independently released What’s Rock And Roll? album – beating critics’ choice artists such as Måneskin to the top spot – the four-piece have chosen to stick to their DIY roots and release their third album independently on Fri 19 January 2024.

Revelling in the direct support of their fans, which only grows in scale and fervour, the band – made up of Rotherham’s Jonny Yerrell, Joe O’Brien, Lee Holland and Jamie Todd – have been quick to write and record their anticipated follow-up despite the live demands that their success has brought. After a mammoth festival season covering the length and breadth of Europe, their biggest ever tour, including arena debuts, got underway last Saturday (23 September) at the ornate Olympia in Liverpool and continues into this weekend with a glorious sold-out ‘homecoming’ at Sheffield’s 12,500-capacity Utilita Arena.

Announcing the 12-track Ballad Of A Bystander album with the beats-driven main stage mover, Reytons indicate more of the crowd-pleasing, hands-aloft, aspirational indie that has brought so many all-ages music fans to their door since releasing their Top 20 debut album, Kids Off The Estate in November 2021. Pleasing radio listeners as well as the people, Reytons continue to gather airplay from national radio stations BBC R1, 6 Music and Radio X, whilst most recent streaming figures have posted 110,000,000 Spotify listens across their growing catalogue.

Formed in 2016 and meticulously honing their craft over that year in secret, the first recorded sounds that music lovers heard of The Reytons was the five-track EP, It Was All So Monotonous, in May 2017. Featuring the spiky, relatable but raw single Slice Of Lime, the EP rapidly pushed forward the band’s reputation amongst gig goers, not only around their Rotherham and Sheffield base, but around the wider UK.

The Kids Off The Estate EP, a further five-track EP, eventually giving up its name to their debut album, arrived at the same time as the band was propelled to bigger and bigger shows in late 2017, including an earth-moving night at Sheffield’s O2 Academy. Leaping forward to 2022, even prior to the release of What’s Rock and Roll? the band sold out a specially-repurposed, 4,500 capacity Magna (Science Adventure Centre) in their Rotherham hometown in just 10 hours.
