Headline London’s Hoxton Bar & Kitchen next week
Rachel Wilkinson and Jamie Davies also known as Ivy & Gold have spent the last twelve months knocking milestones into the dust.
The duo were personally selected to support Laura Doggett on her UK tour, their cover of Coldplay’s ‘Trouble’ bagged them their second Record of the Day feature in six months and they followed this with a sold out headline slot at The Great Escape Festival 2015 with queues of industry tipsters eager to catch their set.
Ivy & Gold also played the main stage at Lovebox Festival and still found time to head out of the UK for their first international shows. Additionally, this year Rachel and Jamie played gigs at Abbey Road Studios and Facebook HQ.
After all of this live activity, the pair felt it was time to head back into the studio and new single ‘Red Wine’ is the first release from a brand new set of material. It is also the first fully self-produced track Ivy & Gold have released (all previous material having been co-produced by #1 producer Sigala) and the shift in sound is palpable.
Exploring electronic sounds and focusing more on production styles ‘Red Wine’ is a triumph. Influenced by producers such as Diplo, Alex da Kid, Joel Little and Max Martin Jamie was able to distill all the production knowhow into classic pop song writing.
‘Red Wine’ is laced with switches in pitch, tempo and melody, all bound up with Eastern top notes and Rachel Wilkinson’s smoky vocals dancing about the beat. If this single is anything to go by 2016 is set to be a vintage year for Ivy & Gold.
Ivy & Gold will return to Hoxton Bar & Kitchen to headline Gold Dust next week – the duo’s only London show of the year.
