Helsinki voyager Jaakko Eino Kalevi released his new mini-album Dissolution last Friday via Weird World. To celebrate, JEK has now shared “I Am Looking Forward”, another sparkling cut from the release that comes with a video by Finnish animator Ville Vainio. There is a deep-fried positivity to “I Am Looking Forward”, of which Kalevi says: “Some time ago I felt that everyone was asking me all the time, ‘Are you looking forward?’ and it made me feel kind of nervous. It’s a funny expression – of course everyone is looking forward all the time. How can you not?”

Ville Vainio adds about the video: “When I first heard the song, I immediately had this vision of Jaakko walking across different sceneries, looking very determined. Also, instead of telling a story, I wanted to capture the mood of the song and make it more like a video portrait of Jaakko’s character.” If last year’s Out of Touch album found Jaakko Eino Kalevi in a reflective mood, on Dissolution he’s curious and engaged, hunting for meaning on a record that takes in heavy funk, chakra-aligning electro and rococo space balladry. “Just as a drop of ink dissolves in a glass of water, it is said that life on Earth began in this way,” says Jaakko, who wrote and produced the songs in Berlin and Helsinki. “It’s impossible to become that drop again. Life on Earth is a mystery – it’s a story of dissolution.”
