Until the remix and beats seemed to the focus of many a  Northern American bands, more on the  edge guitar pop bands were commonplace, spotted in and around many an nocturnal venue fueled by memories of The |Strokes and such like but normally with a softer attack. A world now inhabited by The Jaques that quite comfortably wander. Formed for a short while by two sets of brothers age between 16-21, mind you they’ve gone all …esque on us. the band are Bonnie Jacques (voice/guitar), Elliot Jacques (drums), Oliver Jacques (bass/voice) + Jake Jacques (guitar).

The ‘Pretty DJ’ EP consist of four tracks, the first of which, the title track, is is a agile  guitar led affair affair, still holding pop sensibilities in mind, which fairly reeks of musicality puts you in mind of a softer Blood Red Shoes or a looser Lemonheads. ‘Foreign Films’ follows also works, ‘Scum In A Bottle’ complete with two very short guitar and drum solos is expressive. Pleased everything is tightens up for ‘Weekends’ and a winning guitar refrain and tight lyrics cements a a positive view of the band and release, a vey enjoyable listen.

Expect to hear more from The Jaques. As it is ‘Pretty DJ’ EP dispels any suspicions, the EP’s quality outshines many, a valued debut. 8/10
