‘Tongue Tied’ is their follow up to the pure pop sound Jakil teased on their previous release ‘Istanbul’. The band have seen some great support in the past from the likes of Indie Shuffle, The 405, Clash, Gold Flake Paint and Fader with such quotes as ‘Keep an eye out for these guys’, ‘One of the most intriguing prospects in modern pop music’. Grant (Bass), Kieran O’Brien (Lead Vocals), Callum Paterson (Drums), Jamie Robertson (Guitar / Backing Vocals) and Liam Narrie (Guitar / Backing Vocals) make up Jakil. |Continuing to work with producer Jamie Snell (Nao, Little Boots, Maverick Sabre), to inject the unashamed fun from the live show into their recorded material. ‘Tongue Tied’ is released digitally worldwide on July 8th 2016 via Kira Kira Records.
Speaking on the release, Jakil said ‘The song is basically a tribute to everybody who’s had butterflies about somebody to the point of feeling sick. When writing the song, we wanted to give it the feeling of a last Summer dance twinned with the outright pleasure we get from listening to something like, Lionel Ritchie’s ‘All Night Long’.’
Musically it loose soul meets pop with a a capital P, this may intoxicate teenagers, it’s bright breezy relationship mana from that imagined bedroom diary kind of thing, got to declare my colours the nearest I get to mainstream popular culture is Slaves, The Clash, Editors, Future Islands, Hyde & Beast, but ithis single was not meant for me, unsurprisingly. Fair pop fodder. 6.4/10
