Hotly-tipped South London rapper Jeshi has today released an inventive new video for ’30,000 FEET’ (ft. Celeste). The track is taken from Jeshi’s recently released ‘BAD TASTE’ EP – available now on Because Music – with the latest visuals directed by Charlie Robins at FRIEND (who has directed videos for Naughty Boy, Eliza, and many others)

On ’30,000 FEET’, what begins as a home-video morphs into a trippy visual spectacle. Celeste, finalist of the BBC Sound of 2020 and Brit Award Rising Star winner, acts as the perfect foil to Jeshi’s raw delivery. Both artists fade in and out of computer screens, their daily lives juxtaposed against the blunt lyrics.
At one point, Celeste throws a birthday cake into the street and lights her cigarette with its flame, a parallel to the harsh truth she sings: “Nothing is forever.” The psychedelic edits create a mesmerizing video that matches the dizzying, awe-inspiring heights the song takes its name from. An ambitious, multi-dimensional young talent, Jeshi grew up in Walthamstow in the early 2000s, with a childhood soundtracked by the likes of The Neptunes, Eminem, and Erykah Badu (alongside later game-changing influences like Toro Y Moi, and Lana Del Rey’s ‘Video Games’ visual). He began writing lyrics and rapping amidst his mates at the start of secondary school, with a love of the DIY-spirit first manifesting in a home studio that literally consisted of a Nintendo Wii USB microphone from a karaoke game plugged straight into a desktop PC.
Across a couple of formative projects thus far, Jeshi has emerged an enigmatic artist of disarming candour. He has already collaborated with Mura Masa and toured alongside slowthai and Yellow Days – not to mention appearing on COLORs, Boiler Room and NTS. It’s an ascent that is elevated on his latest EP ‘BAD TASTE’, which includes ’30,000 FEET’ alongside the acclaimed singles ‘SAME SONGS and ‘’COMING DOWN’.
Watch out for more from Jeshi, one of the most promising voices in UK rap, coming soon.
